Pakistani security officials on Thursday held for questioning former Taliban ambassador Abdul Salam Zaeef from his residence in Islamabad, his family said.
"People, believed to be from the intelligence services, came in two vehicles and took him to an unknown place," Zaeef's nephew Hamidullah told a new agency.
"They were about eight people," he said. The officials told the family that "there was nothing to worry".
Hamidullah said he was unsure whether his uncle would be held in custody or deported to Afghanistan.
Reports have said that Zaeef's application for an asylum in Pakistan was refused.
