The diplomatic tension between New India and Islamabad had reduced after US Secretary of State Colin Powell's visit to the subcontinent, Pakistan Foreign Minister Abdul Satter said.
However, tension on the ground is yet to be defused, as armies of both the countries are still in eyeball-to-eyeball position, Urdu daily Jung quoted Sattar as saying.
Describing the secretary of state's visit to the region as highly "successful" and "fantastic", US Ambassador to Pakistan Wendy Chamberlin told reporters that talks between Powell and President Pervez Musharraf were very constructive and would play a key role towards establishing peace in the region.
"One should hope for good news from New Delhi too," she said.
Urdu daily Nawai Waqt said Powell's visit had brightened possibilities of normalising diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan.
Commenting on Powell's visit, another daily, The News, said his efforts to restart a dialogue between India and Pakistan were especially critical, as the US saw peace and stability in the region as vital for its war against terrorism.
