Pakistani shelling kills one, wounds 13

Pakistani troops continued shelling border villages of Jammu and Kashmir killing one person and wounding 13 on Friday night.

The shelling in Gulpur, Digwar and Saltorian villages around Poonch town also damaged at least half a dozen houses.

Reports said Pakistan troops pounded the villages with mortar fire.

A defence ministry spokesman said that Indian troops retaliated, adding that there was no information about the damage and casualties suffered by the other side.

Pakistan shells also landed in villages in the Hiranagar sector, but no loss of life and property were reported.

According to official reports, at least 20 people have been killed and 100 wounded in the past month in the intense cross-border firing between the two countries.

The spokesman said almost 50 Pakistani soldiers have been killed and many more wounded in retaliatory fire in the past month.
