Flag meeting eases tension along Rajasthan border

A flag meeting between Indian and Pakistani authorities on Wednesday night has helped ease the tension on the Indo-Pak border in the Ganganagar sector, official sources said in Jodhpur on Thursday.

The flag meeting was held on the zero-line near Khamesha Kothi, they said.

The meeting was sought by the Pakistani Rangers after retaliatory shelling from the Indian side on Wednesday destroyed one of their posts, a watch tower and several bunkers, the sources said.

At least 10 Rangers are believed to have been killed in the shelling by Indian troops.

The body of Lance Naik Masood Ahmed, a Pakistani soldier killed in the skirmish, was handed over to the Pakistani authorities after the flag meeting.

The skirmishes began on Tuesday night when a BSF patrol party intercepted Ahmed while he was trying to sneak into India.

Pakistani Rangers started firing on the patrol party to provide cover to the intruder killing an Assistant Commandant Sumer Singh, forcing Indian troops to retaliate.
