Badal told reporters in Moga, Punjab, on Sunday that the party had decided to support the bill because of the situation prevailing in the country, especially in Kashmir, but only after the government had agreed to make the amendments suggested by them.
"If there is any misuse of POTO [the POT Ordinance, which the bill seeks to replace], the Akali Dal will not hesitate to lodge a protest with the Centre," he said.
Meanwhile, former Akal Takht jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh said it was unfortunate that the NDA government was determined to get the POT bill passed through a joint sitting of Parliament.
Apprehending that the law would also be misused like the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act, he alleged that the future of minorities was not safe in the hands of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.
