Fourteen hamlets along LoC to be
shifted to Poonch

Fourteen hamlets located on the Line of Control are being shifted permanently to safer areas in Poonch sector in view of security constraints, continued Pakistani shelling and firing, official sources said on Tuesday.

This was being done on a suggestion made to the state government by the army, the sources said.

"We are shifting 14 border hamlets along LoC to Balakote, Tarkundi and Kerni belts of Poonch sector... in view of security constraints," they said.

A total number of 43 villages have been identified for shifting, the sources said.

These hamlets are located on the Zero Line and ahead of army posts and defence set up in Poonch district, the sources said.

Besides, these hamlets are potential routes of infiltration for militants, they said.

The hamlets being shifted are Tarkundi, Dabhi, Drarti, Broti, Panjni, Qasba, Dasti, Sohale, Ramduta, Basonia, Deori, Daksi, Upper Dalotha, Lower Dalotha, they said.

The first instalment of Rs 50,000 is being paid to the villagers for shifting of their houses, they added.
