Japan asks Pak to take 'visible'
action to prevent infiltration

Japan on Friday asked Pakistan to take "visible" action in preventing infiltration across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Pakistan should show to [the] international community, including India, that it has taken visible action in this regard," visiting Japanese Senior Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Seiken Sugiura told reporters in New Delhi.

Sugiura, who met External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh and National Security Adviser Brajesh Mishra, said Tokyo was very concerned over the current tensions between India and Pakistan which had the potential of escalating into a full-scale war between the two nuclear countries.

"As a major power in the region, we expect India will exhaust all diplomatic efforts in de-escalating the situation [before considering any action against Pakistan]," he said.

"We understand the sentiments of Indian people who have suffered long from terrorism", he said
