A huge condom welcomed Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, when he arrived for a one-to-one meeting with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at Jubilee Hall on Thursday morning.
The eight-foot-high condom, made of rexine at a cost of Rs 9,000 (US$ 180), was displayed near the flower-decked arch through which Gates passed to enter the building.
Naidu told Gates he was committed to fight the AIDS epidemic by creating awareness.
The chief minister instructed his officials to decorate the venues of all official meetings with condoms and other anti-AIDS paraphernalia.
Bill lauded Naidu's personal commitment to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS.
He said that the state should take the lead in creating awareness about AIDS in India and assured assistance for such a campaign from the $100 million grant announced by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
