Doctors on Wednesday certified as 'mentally sick' an employee of the Airport Authority of India who was detained on Tuesday after he tried to enter the cockpit of a Jet Airways Guwahati-Kolkata flight.

At Kolkata, security personnel forcibly evicted the AAI employee from the aircraft after he refused to disembark at the N S C Bose International Airport.

Police had taken him to a hospital where he was examined by a medical board.

He has since been released on bail.

Attempting to enter the pilot's cabin when an aircraft is in the air is a serious offence under international aviation law.

AAI officials from Guwahati, who rushed to Kolkata after being informed of Tuesday's incident, produced documents establishing that the concerned passenger Shiva Raju was mentally unsound.

Raju, a resident of Karnataka, would be escorted to his home after going through the necessary legal proceedings, airport police sources said.
