Teams of the SIT and the Anti Corruption Bureau jointly searched Sharma's official residence near Mantralaya, the state secretariat in south Mumbai.

Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and his deputy Chhagan Bhujbal, who is in charge of the home portfolio, preferred to keep mum over Sharma's arrest.

While Shinde said the subject is sub-judice, Bhujbal told reporters, "The scam started during the Shiv Sena-BJP rule, which did nothing (to expose the racket) but instead levelled baseless charges against the Democratic Front government."
