J&K: BSF foils suicide attack on camp

The Border Security Force foiled a suicide attack on its camp at Nishad near Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir by killing a militant in the on Tuesday morning, a BSF spokesman said.

He said the troops noticed movement of militants, who were trying to enter the camp by cutting the barbed wire at Ishberg Nishat, near the 57th battalion camp at 0300 hours IST in the morning.

The BSF jawans challenged the militants and killed one of them. The troops launched a search in the area for other militants who escaped, the spokesman said.

The identity of the slain militant was not immediately known but the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad was believed to be behind the attack, the spokesman said.

The JeM had threatened to launch attacks on the security forces to avenge the killing of their chief commander (operations) Ghazi Baba in an encounter at Noorbagh-Qammerwari on Saturday.
