Congress president Sonia Gandhi's children Priyanka Vadra and Rahul on Wednesday asked party workers to "wipe out" the ruling National Democratic Alliance in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.

"There is no room for complacency and the need of the hour is to use all our might to trounce the NDA in the elections," Priyanka told a gathering of party workers at the Sanjay Gandhi hospital guest house near Munshiganj, about 30 km from Amethi, their mother's parliamentary constituency.

Members of all the frontal organisations of the party were present at the meeting, which was also addressed by Rahul, who is visiting Amethi after a long interval.

The siblings asked the workers to fan out in villages and strengthen the Congress at the grassroots level "kyonki Amethi se uthne wale toofan se BJP ka poori tarah safaya ho jayega" (the storm arising from Amethi will wipe out the BJP completely).

Earlier, they addressed a meeting of the Seva Dal, Youth Congress, Mahila Cell and block presidents.

While Rahul spoke of his mother becoming the next prime minister, Priyanka hinted that her brother would henceforth be in-charge of the Amethi constituency.

Priyanka and Rahul also met former Union minister and Amethi scion Sanjay Singh, former members of Parliament and legislators on Tuesday night.

Despite a steady drizzle, a lot of workers assembled at the guesthouse to have a glimpse of Priyanka and Rahul.

Former state minister and BJP legislator from Amethi, Amita Singh, also met the two and claimed that as many as 500 BJP workers would join the Congress.

Braving the downpour Priyanka and Rahul visited about 50 harijan houses in Salon, a segment of the Amethi constituency. They also went to Shagarh village and reviewed the Rajiv Gandhi Women's Development project.
