National Doctoral Fellowships

The All India Council For Technical Education is a statutory body of the Government of India.

In pursuance of the policy framework for promotion of post graduate education and research in technical education as announced by the ministry of human resources development, the All India Council for Technical Education offers National Doctoral Fellowships to eligible candidates to pursue doctoral programmes.

Under the National Doctoral Fellowship scheme, 50 doctoral fellowships will be offered by the AICTE every year to selected candidates in emerging areas/disciplines of technical education to pursue a doctoral programme.

Objectives: To attract highly qualified and motivated candidates to pursue a doctoral degree and offer themselves for teaching positions in the technical education system. To provide research support to bright young candidates for pursuing exciting and innovative research in the field of technical education.

Amount of Scholarship: Under this scheme a scholarship of Rs 12,000 per month and a contingency grant of Rs 25,000 per year would be given by the AICTE to each selected candidate. In addition an amount of Rs 20,000 per student would be given to the host institution (where the student is pursing the doctoral programme).

Period of Scholarship: The scholarship will be given for a period of three years. In the event of non-completion of the PhD programme or equivalent within this period the scholarship can be extended up to one more year subject to satisfactory performance of the candidate, as assessed by an independent expert committee appointed by the AICTE.

Eligibility Criteria: 

1. The applicant should possess a First Class Master's Degree in areas of technical education such as ME, M Tech, M Pharm, M Arch, MBA,  MS by research or equivalent or should have scored a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in master's degree examination or equivalent if class is not declared.

2. The candidate should be less than 35 years of age on the date of submitting the application. However, the age limit will be relaxed by five years for candidates belonging to SC/ST, women and physically challenged category. Necessary supporting documents to this effect should have to be enclosed.

Note: i. Candidates who are in the final year and final semester of the Master's Degree programme are also eligible to apply under the above scheme. The candidature of such candidates shall be provisional subject to their passing the Master Degree final examination securing first class or 60% marks in the overall aggregate (where class is not awarded or equivalent). ii. Existing candidates who are already doing a PhD programme or equivalent in some technical education institutions are also eligible to apply under this scheme. 

Selection process: Candidates who satisfy the eligibility criteria as prescribed above will have to appear for a National  Selection Test and/or interview. Based on the performance of the candidates in the selection test and/or interview a merit list of candidates shall be prepared by the AICTE from which a final selection of candidates for the scheme shall be made.
