Underworld don Abu Salem's girlfriend Monica Bedi has approached the Supreme Administrative Tribunal of Portugal challenging the order of the Supreme Court of that country rejecting her application seeking political asylum.

The Portugal Supreme Court had rejected Bedi's application for asylum in that country to save herself from being extradited to India to face charges of obtaining fake travel documents in the name of Sanha Kamal Mallick from Hyderabad and fleeing the country using the same papers, CBI sources said in Delhi on Monday.

The former actress had sought asylum in Portugal claiming she would face 'discrimination' by the Indian government as she belonged to a minority community.

She had taken the same plea in her review petition filed before the Supreme Administrative Tribunal, the body that reviews application of asylum seekers.

The CBI, meanwhile, is preparing its grounds to counter Bedi's fresh move and the agency would file an application through the Prosecutor General of Portugal citing its law under which criminals are barred from any kind of asylum.
