RSS sources said she apprised Sangh's joint-general secretary in charge of BJP affairs, Madan Das Devi, of the events leading to her suspension.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Giriraj Kishore said the VHP would welcome Bharti in its fold if she decided to quit politics.

VHP has deep differences with the BJP leadership over the latter's soft-pedalling of the Ayodhya issue.

Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was present when Uma Bharti walked out of a party meeting, described her suspension as the 'right step.'

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Babulal Gaur, till recently believed to be a close associate of Bharti, too has supported her suspension.
