51 rescued from Jawahar Tunnel

Fifty-one of the 311 security personnel trapped in Jawahar Tunnel were rescued and shifted to a Rashtriya Rifles base in Banihal, 190 km from Jammu, on Tuesday, official sources said.

The jawans had taken shelter in the tunnel to protect themselves from avalanches.

The Indian Air Force had to carry out helicopter sorties and drop food packets to them.
