Blaming the rightist forces behind the attack in Ayodhya on Tuesday, the All India Babri Masjid Action Committee has demanded a high-level inquiry by a central agency into the incident.

Zafaryab Jilani, convener of the AIBMAC, told rediff.com over telephone from Lucknow that there should be a thorough probe by a central investigating agency into the incident.

Without naming the Bharatiya Janata Party, Jilani said, "There are rightist forces in the country whose political fortunes are in shambles. The Sangh Parivar knows that the only way to rejuvenate this situation is through mobilisation on the issue of Babri Masjid."

"I believe that these are the people behind the attack or may be some outside force who wants to destabilse the country by creating Hindu-Muslim divide. They were the people behind the Parliament attack," Jilani said.

"Both these forces have the same objective. So we demand that the truth should come out and the government should tell the country who was behind the attack," he continued.

He expressed concern that there could be a law and order problem in the country after the incident. "We want the government to take action so that there will not be any violence," he said.

He said the security of the disputed site in Ayodhya should be handed over to an inspector general level officer of a central police or paramilitary force like the Central Industrial Security Force or Border Security Force or Central Reserve Police Force.

"The attack was an unfortunate incident and people should not indulge in politics over it. It is a national crisis," he said.
