Pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in South Kashmir Himalayas continued to remain suspended from Jammu for second consecutive day on Thursday with authorities not allowing pilgrims to proceed towards Pahalgam and Baltal for undertaking the journey.

Authorities did not allow any vehicle to proceed towards Pahalgam and Baltal as many pilgrims were already stranded at Pahalgam and Baltal, official sources said.

Unless the rush of pilgrims is cleared, it is not advisable to send more pilgrims from Jammu, they said.

However, authorities allowed 5,000 pilgrims to trek onwards to the cave shrine from Baltal and 4320 others from Pahalgam as weather was good at these places.

Small batches of pilgrims were also allowed from Pahalgam and Baltal to proceed onwards to the cave shrine to facilitate smooth flow of Pilgrims on the routes.

More than 1.35 lakh pilgrims had darshan of the naturally formed Shivlingam since the start of the annual pilgrimage on June 21, the sources said.
