Heavy rains lashed Mumbai early on Thursday, inundating low-lying areasĀ and partially disrupting rail and road traffic.

The rail traffic on the Western Railway route was disrupted between Mumbai Central and Grant Road due to water logging in two of the four tracks, Western Railway sources said.

Trains are running five to seven minutes late, they said. Road traffic at several places, including Wadala, Sewri and Byculla were affected due to water logging and traffic jams were reported from these areas.

The local weather bureau has forecast heavy to very heavy rains in the city and the suburbs during the next 24 hours.

Rainfall recorded between 0830 IST on Wednesday and 0830 IST on Thursday was 103.9 mm in Colaba in South Mumbai and 103.0 mm in suburban Santa Cruz, the weather office said.

There will be high tide around 2359 IST, the sources said.
