Six militants, including a Pakistani infiltrator and a Jamaat-e-Islami activist, were among 10 people killed in Jammu and Kashmir where police arrested six youths being herded to Pakistan for arms training since Sunday night, a police spokesman said on Monday.

The youths, all hailing from Batpora village of Pulwama district, were apprehended at the border village of Trehgam in north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Monday, the spokesman said.

They were motivated by militants to go across to Pakistan for subversive training, he said. However, the militants accompanying them escaped from the police dragnet, the spokesman said.

In a major gun battle, security forces shot dead three unidentified militants during search operations at Sikri Top in the Marmat area of Doda district on Monday.

Two rifles and an under barrel grenade launcher were recovered from them.

Security forces also foiled an infiltration bid when the troops guarding the border shot dead a militant at Darkari near the Line of Control in Poonch sector on Sunday night.

An AK rifle and some ammunition were recovered from the slain infiltrator, the spokesman said.

He said security forces killed an area commander of the Al Badr group, Abu Hamza of Pakistan, in an encounter at Phera-Dharamshal in Rajouri district on Sunday night.

In another encounter, he said, security forces killed an unidentified militant at Trakpora village of Kupwara district on Monday evening.

Abdul Gani Parray, an activist of the JeI, was shot dead by unidentified militants outside his house at Gopalpora-Kulgam in Anantnag district, the spokesman said.

The spokesman said militants kidnapped and later shot dead one Mohammad Shafi near his house at Mashal in the Gool area of Udhampur district on Monday.

An unidentified body was recovered by the police from Yangroo-Kralapora in Kupwara district on Monday, the spokesman
said.

The sources said militants hurled a grenade and followed it by firing on a security patrol at Dadsar in Pulwama district on Monday evening, but no one was hurt in the shootout.

Militants also exchanged fire with security forces at Nal-Arang in Gool area of Udhampur on Sunday night, but there was no casualty, the sources said, adding later the search of the area led to the recovery of one AK rifle and a wireless set.

The sources said security forces recovered 40 AK rounds, an AK folding butt and three metres of cordex from the house of one Reyaz Ahmad Dar at Ratnipora village of Tangmarg in Baramulla district on Sunday night.

In another operation, security forces apprehended one overground worker of ultras, Abdul Rashid, from Kandi area of Budhal tehsil in Rajouri district on Sunday. He was later handed over to police for further investigation, they said.
