The anti-corruption wing of the Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday raided 33 premises across the country in connection with two disproportionate assets cases registered against government officials, including Delhi Income Tax Commissioner B Meena.

The raids were conducted at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Port Blair, Pondicherry and Alwar in Rajasthan, CBI
sources said.

Speaking to rediff.com, CBI spokesman G Mohanty confirmed the raids. "We had registered one case of disproportionate assets against an income tax official of the rank of commissioner in Delhi and we are currently raiding his office and residence. The other case is about a criminal conspiracy hatched by some of the government officials who first leased out government land to a private party and then paid him compensation to the tune of Rest 8.5 core for re-acquiring the land which belonged to the government. K Kandavelu, 1997 IAS officer, and some other senior government officials were involved in the incident. They could have acquired the land by simply issuing a notification," Mohanty explained.
