Nearly 2,000 militants are poised to enter Jammu and Kashmir taking advantage of the summer thaw, an army official said on Friday.

"Infiltration is likely to increase in view of the melting snow along the Line of Control," the official said, adding, "As many as 2,000 militants are stationed on launching pads along the LoC, ready to cross to over."

"Infiltration had decreased due to heavy snowfall but now it could increase considerably," the official said, adding troops have been put on alert.

Over the last 10 days, 24 militants were killed in four major infiltration bids along the LoC, he said.

On April 26, four militants were killed at Balonie Mendhar in Poonch.

It was followed by killing of 10 militants in Kupwarj area near LoC in Kashmir valley on April 28 and four more in Mendhar on April 30.

On May 3, six Lashker-e-Tayiba militants were killed in Krishnagati in Poonch.
