Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy was informed of a ghastly incident in which a man bit off the nose and lips of a girl after she resisted alleged sexual assault.

Communist Party of India-Marxist legislator Julakanti Ranga Reddy presented the Scheduled Caste girl from Kalvakatta village under Damaracharla mandal in Nalgonda district to Dr Reddy to whom the girl, an orphan who had to support three younger sisters, narrated her tale of woe.

She said, the accused, one Yellaiah, entered her house and tried to molest her.

When she resisted, he bit off her nose and lips, disfiguring her, she added.

The news soon spread and before long political parties and women's organisations highlighted the issue and got the assailant arrested.

Some voluntary organisations came forward to support the girl and her sisters though temporarily.

Ranga Reddy brought the girl, who is still in a state of shock, to Hyderabad on Friday.

With tears rolling down her cheeks, she urged the chief minister to ensure that the assailant was hanged so that a similar fate could not befall on others.

Mr Ranga Reddy told UNI that the chief minister had sanctioned Rs 50,000 to the girl for undergoing plastic surgery and reconstruction of her disfigured face. He also instructed Nalgonda district Collector to provide her a job.
