Govt seeks Japanese help for Delhi, Bangalore metro projects

The government has sought the assistance of the Japan Bank of International Cooperation to fund the Bangalore Metro project and the second phase of the Delhi Metro. Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply Wednesday.

"The JBIC is appraising both the proposals," he said.

The Japanese Bank had also provided funds for the first phase of the Delhi Metro project, which is nearing completion.

Reddy also said that Delhi Metro Rail Corporation had requested the Union government to provide Rs 105 crore for payment of cess to the Labour Welfare Department.
