The Sikhs Friday donated truckloads of quake relief to Pakistan as High Commissioner Aziz Ahmed Khan thanked the people and the government of India for their response to the disaster that struck his country last week.

"My country will appreciate this humanitarian gesture. We are thankful to the people and the government of India for their assistance," Khan said as he flagged off a Pakistan-bound Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee relief convoy carrying 16,000 blankets, 1,500 tents, 22,000 metres of polysheets and medical aid.

He also thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for providing quake aid to Pakistan.

The DSGMC presented the high commissioner, his deputy Munnawar Bhatti and two of his colleagues with siropas (the holy stoles of honour) and shawls and swords in a traditional Sikh welcome at the committee office at Gurdwara Rakab Ganj.

The high commissioner said Pakistan's Foreign Office was in touch with the Indian High Commission about information regarding Indian nationals missing since last Saturday's killer quake.
