One fireman killed in Mumbai truck terminal fire

A fireman was killed and five others were injured while dousing a major fire that broke out at a plastic godown in Navi Mumbai early Monday morning.

The fireman identified as Tulshidas Gharat, sustained injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Five other firemen sustained burn injuries and have been hospitalised, police added.

The fire broke out at 6.45 am at the godown located in between Achud and Kalamboli villages of Navi Mumbai, police said.

Eighteen fire tenders from Navi Mumbai fire service and at least half a dozen tenders and fire engines from Mumbai and Thane fire services have been dispatched, police said.

Senior civic, district and police officials have rushed to the spot.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation, police added.
