J&K: Two militants killed, arms nabbed

Two militants were killed and a huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives recovered during separate operations by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir since last night, a police spokesman said today.

The two militants were killed in a joint operation by police and security forces at Mulfaq area on the outskirts of Srinagar last night, the spokesman said.

He said the ultras were hiding in the house of one Mohammad Sadiq Mir, which was gutted during the encounter between the security forces and militants.

Two AK assault rifles, four magazines, 25 rounds, a wireless set and four hand-grenades were recovered from the slain ultras, whose identity and group affiliation are being ascertained.

He said army recovered a huge cache of arms and explosives from a natural cave near village Churinda, just a few kilometres from the Line of Control, in Uri sector of Baramulla district on Monday.

The seizure included three AK assault rifles, 370 rounds of ammunition, one carbine machine, four pistols, 32 pistol ammunition, one under-barrel grenade launcher, 1.8 kilogrammes of explosives, four improvised explosive devices, two radio sets and four timers.

Security forces busted two hideouts during search operations at Kot Budhan in Udhampur district and recovered one AK rifle, four hand-grenades, one UBGL, two wireless sets, and one UBGL grenade Sunday night, the spokesman said.

He said another hideout was unearthed during search operations in the forests of Aatol-Gala in Rajouri district on Monday. The search of the hideout led to the recovery of five kilogrammes of RDX, six mortars and 14 Chinese grenades.

Security forces from Doda and Udhampur districts arrested two ultras overnight, including an overground worker, police said.

Security forces launched an operation at Bachraw-Suigarh in Doda district following information about presence of militants on Sunday and in the ensuing firefight, one ultra was wounded, police said.

The ultra, Farooq Bhat of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit, was nabbed in injured condition, they said. Quoting radio intercepts, they said three militants were hiding in the area, two of whom managed to escape. One UBGL grenade and 10 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the arrested militant, police said.

They said in another operation, one overground worker of ultras, Mohammad Aslam of Kot Budhan of Udhampur district, was nabbed by security forces Sunday evening. One UBGL round, two Chinese grenades and two packets of explosives were recovered from the arrested man, police said.
