Mumbai police Wednesday questioned filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar in the alleged conspiracy by Bollywood upcoming star Preeti Jain to kill him.

Bhandarkar arrived at the Agripada police station to record his statement in the case and was quizzed by the police for over three and a half hours.

"We called Bhandarkar to record his statement in the case," Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Rastogi told reporters. "It was a routine procedure," he added.

Bhandarkar has been provided a police security cover in the wake of the alleged murder plot hatched by Jain, with the help of a former aide of gangster-turned-politican Arun Gawli.

Mumbai police claim Preeti gave a supari (contract) to former Gawli aide Naresh Pardesi to eliminate Bhandarkar. The investigations in the case have led to the arrest of not only Preeti and Pardesi, but also of three men who were allegedly
supposed to execute the plan.

A country-made revolver and three cartridges were also been seized while Preeti and Pardesi were made to undergo lie detection and brain mapping tests to assess the details of the alleged conspiracy.
