The ruling Samajwadi Party-Rashtriya Lok Dal combine swept the Zilla Panchayat chairmen polls, elections for which were held Saturday, winning 50 of the 65 seats.

Samajwadi Party candidates registered victory in 45 seats whereas its ally RLD bagged five seats, state election office sources in Lucknow said.

The Bahujan Samaj Party managed to win only 12 seats whereas BJP could manage to win only one seat, sources said adding, one independent and a candidate having the support of Congress and BJP also made through.

The result of four districts Hamirpur, Mahoba, Mahrajganj and Barabanki have not been declared, because of certain complaints, sources said adding that elections in Mau were not held.

With this, the five-month-long process of panchayat elections in the state came to an end Saturday.

Meanwhile, all opposition parties, including the BJP, BSP and Congress have alleged largescale irregularities in polling and have accused the state government of resorting to malpractices including intimidation of voters during the polls.

In separate releases, the parties have charged the government with misuse of official machinery.
