A 19-year-old youth was arrested for allegedly sending e-mails to a television channel claiming responsibility for the recent Mumbai bomb blasts, a senior police official said today.

Shariq Ahmed Khan of Nishatpura locality in Bhopal was arrested yesterday when he was emerging from a computer coaching class in MP Nagar, for allegedly sending the e-mails in the name of the Lashkar-e-Qahar, Superintendent of Police A K Singh told PTI.

Khan, who had cleared Standard 12th, had sent four e-mails to a TV channel on July 15, 17, 18 and 24 from different cybercafes in the city including one from the satellite township Bairagarh, Singh said.

He was arrested by the Cyber Crime Branch and CID on the information provided by the Maharashtra police, Singh said, adding that Khan was found to be holding 11 different e-mail IDs.

The accused was being interrogated and the police were yet to link him to the banned Students Islamic Movement of India or any other terrorist outfit, he said.
