2 ultras killed in J&K

Two militants were killed and an equal number of policemen injured during a gunbattle on Tuesday in Badgam district, official sources said.

The militants were killed in an encounter with a joint search party of the Special Operations Group of local police and Central Reserve Police Force at village Baru in Chadoora area of central Kashmir in Badgam district, they said.

A CRPF officer and a policeman were also injured in the encounter, which broke out when militants hiding in the village opened fire on the search party, the sources said adding, the identity and group affiliation of the deceased is being ascertained.

In other incidents, militants hurled two grenades and fired on the house of a village revenue official Bashir Ahmad Ganai at Chandiloora in Tangmarg area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district late on Monday night, the sources said.

Ganai along with his family escaped unhurt in the attack, but two of his private cars were damaged although both the grenades failed to explode and were subsequently neutralised by the bomb disposal squad.

Militants also hurled a grenade on the house of one Mohammad Amin Rehsi at Arampora-Qammerwari in downtown Srinagar on Monday night, damaging the window panes, the sources said.

The motive behind the grenade attack on the house of Rehsi, who along with his family was not present there, was not known immediately, they said.
