As Orissa remembered the unprecedented devastation caused by a super cyclone on this day seven years ago, a depression formed over the Bay of Bengal on the Andhra Pradesh coast on Sunday.

The depression formed over the west central Bay and lay centred 50 kilometres east of Nellore at 0830 hours, said a bulletin issued by the Cyclone Warning Centre.

The system is likely to move in a northerly direction and cross the Andhra coast between Bapatla and Kakinada, it said.

The bulletin forecast the likelihood of rain or thundershowers at many places in south Orissa and a few places in the northern districts.

The distant cautionary signal number one was hoisted at Gopalpur and Paradip and fishermen were advised not to venture out to the open sea.
