Three army men were handed over by the railway protection force to military police on the charge of manhandling and harassing a family traveling on a train from Delhi to Jalandhar cantonment.

The ordeal of the family continued for about six hours onboard Swaraj Express while travelling from Mumbai to Jammu till they could lodge their complaint with the RPF at Jalandhar cantonment, sources said.

In its complaint, the family alleged 16 army men boarded their compartment of Swaraj Express at Delhi. The dispute started over the issue of sharing of seats and the army men allegedly started abusing and manhandling them.

"On the way, we tried to contact the GRP but at none of the stations during the brief halts of the train we could find any GRP staff," a member of the family said, adding it was only after reaching Jalandhar cantonment that they could contact RPF and lodge their complaint.

When contacted, Inspector Rakesh Sharma of RPF said Raj Kumar, who along with his family, was going from Mumbai to Vaishno Devi, alleged the army jawans even tried to throw them out of the running train.

Even after intervention by RPF, the army men were threatening them for lodging the complaint, the family alleged.

The RPF personnel took the three army men identified as Ashish Tigga, Ramachandran and Vishram Singh in its custody and later handed them over to military police.
