Senior People's Democratic Party leader and Municipal Committee chairman Ghulam Mohammad Lone escaped unhurt in a grenade attack by militants on his heavily-guarded residence in Ganderbal district, official sources said on Monday.

Militants hurled a grenade on the residence of Lone, PDP councillor and chairman of Municipal Committee, Ganderbal distrcit, at Bamloora village late Sunday night causing injuries to a Special Police Officer posted on guard duty, the sources said.

Sources said Lone and his family were present in the house and escaped unhurt in the blast, which damaged window panes of the house. Injured SPO, Abdul Rashid, was shifted to hospital.

In another incident, the sources said militants made an abortive bid to target a picket of the 179 battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force with a grenade at Chanikhan locality of Sopore in Baramulla district late Sunday night.

The grenade fell short of the CRPF picket, causing no harm, the sources said.

No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the two grenade attacks.
