J&K: Five killed in floods, landslides

Five persons, including two girls, were killed and seven others injured in incidents of house collapse, landslides and flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir since Tuesday, official sources said on Wednesday.

Forty-eight cattle heads perished due to floods in Udhampur district, they said.

A girl, identified as Manju, died when a shed collapsed over her in Chopra Shop area of Udhmapur district, while a deaf and mute girl was washed away by flash floods in Dadki village of Doda district on Tuesday evening, they said.

An unidentified body was recovered from a river near the Police Academy in Udhampur district on Wednesday, they said, adding the person was washed away by flash floods.

The bodies of two persons, including an armyman, who were buried alive due to a landslide at Khooni Nallah area on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Tuesday, were recovered on Wednesday, they said.

Two persons were injured when a cowshed collapsed in Mahore belt of Udhampur district on Tuesday night, following heavy rains, while five others were wounded in similar incidents in R S Pura and Bishna in Jammu district and Paddar in Doda district, the sources said.

In several villages of Reasi tehsil of Udhampur district on Tuesday night, over 32 cattle heads and other animals were washed away in flash floods.

In Khour area of the district, 16 animals were washed away in flash floods on Monday night, the sources said adding, the carcasses were recovered on Tuesday.
