Tamil newspaper Dinakaran's management on Thursday expressed unhappiness at the way police had registered a case regarding the attack on its office in Madurai, alleging that they had not taken any action against accused named in its complaint.
Muthupandi, editor of the daily, told PTI the management had given all the evidence, including photographs and video footage of the attack, which claimed three lives, to the police. But they had not taken any action, he alleged.
He alleged that police had registered the case even before the complaint was given.
"Whether it is M K Azhagiri, the chief minister's son, who is the first accused or Mayor Thenmozhi, the second accused named in the complaint given by the management, police have not taken any action," Muthupandi said.
"Police know very well where Mayor Thenmozhi is and they are keeping quiet. Even third accused 'Attack' Pandi has not been arrested," he said.
"The case registered by police, as we understand, is fake. They did not even give a proper receipt when the complaint was given," he said.
Criticising police, a journalist said even when the attack took place, there were 50 policemen present at the site but they were more interested in running for cover and this was clear from the television footage. "What action would they take against such policemen?" he asked. "It is an irony that police, who are supposed to protect us, had failed."
