A boy drowned in a swimming pool in his school premises, leading to angry protests from his family members who demanded the arrest of the principal and concerned officials on Tuesday.

Raunak Gupta, studying in class eleventh, had gone to learn swimming during a summer camp on Monday morning and was drowned.

His body was recovered from the pool after about half an hour.

The situation took a serious turn on Monday evening when the first postmortem report of the boy revealed poisoning to be the cause of death, they said.

The angry relatives of the deceased immediately approached the district magistrate and sought orders for the second postmortem of the body.

The report, however, stated that the boy died as he drowned in the pool.

The family members of the deceased took the body at the school premises and blocked the roads creating traffic jam in the area, they said.

The police have arrested the swimming coach Ramesh Singh and two guards of the school, they said, adding the district
administration was planning to seal the school premises.

Heavy police force have been deployed at the school premises, they said.

Meanwhile, the protesters were demanding action against the doctors who had performed the first postmortem.

The angry traders closed the Cooperganj market by keeping their shutters down on Tuesday morning.

The district administration has assured the family members of the boy that action would be taken against the guilty.
