Nearly a week after undergoing a risky surgery to separate her from her parasitic twin, two-year-old Lakshmi is showing all signs of a recovery and is responding well to treatment.

"She is doing well," Sparsh hospital's Director of the Medical Services Dr Y John said.

Lakshmi underwent a 27-hour surgery at the hospital on November 6 to remove her extraneous limbs and restructure some of her body parts, Dr John said. Lakshmi had been kept in an Intensive Care Unit specially prepared for her and has been allowed to spend more time with her parents.

"She has been eating and drinking well," said Dr John. Lakshmi's parents brought her to the hospital on October 3. She had eight limbs and the partially formed body of her parasitic twin was fused to her body at the pelvis.

A team of 36 doctors operated on Lakshmi last Tuesday to separate her extraneous body parts and to restructure some of her internal body parts.
