The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday said it wanted a common approach by political parties when the Indo-US nuclear deal comes up for discussion in Parliament during the winter session.

After discussing the deal with DMK patriarch and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Monday evening, CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat said he was meeting leaders of political parties to evolve a common approach to be adopted in Parliament.

His meeting with Karunanidhi and UNPA leaders was with this objective, he said. He said there was no threat or crisis to the UPA government on the deal.

Karat also ruled out the possibility of a Third Front immediately. "We have no plans to create a new front," he said. On his discussions with Karunanidhi, Karat said that besides the nuclear deal, they discussed the current political situation in the country.
