The Congress on Wednesday expressed unhappiness with the dates announced for the Assembly polls in Karnataka, saying the Election Commission has shown "great hurry" in declaring the schedule as the electoral rolls are not ready yet.
"The electoral rolls of all the districts have not been published yet. The maps for seven districts (after delimitation) has not been done," AICC general secretary in-charge of party affairs in Karnataka Prithviraj Chavan told reporters in New Delhi.
"We don't know when the final rolls will be published. It has been done in a great hurry. President's rule would still have to be extended, so why such a great hurry," he said.
The Election Commission has announced that Karnataka will have three-phased assembly elections on May 10, 16 and 22 that will require extension of President's rule by a short spell.
Meanwhile, striking a cautious tone, a senior leader claimed the Congress would emerge as the single-largest party in the state, followed by the BJP, in the Assembly elections.
He also claimed that Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party will not have much of an impact in Karnataka as PCC chief Mallikarjun Kharge, a Dalit leader, has more influence than her in the state.
