Three children were injured, one of them seriously, following a 'bottle bomb' blast at Shantipara, 1 km from New Jalpaiguri Railway station, West Bengal, as the bomb squad recovered four bottle bombs from the spot, the police said.

The Officer-in-Charge, New Jalpaiguri police outpost, Pankaj Thapa told PTI that the blast took place when four students of Gatebazar Railway school were roaming around in the area and picked up a bottle appearing to have some jelly like substance inside it.

When one of them tried to open it to have the jelly, the bottle exploded and three of them were injured. One child who stood at a little distance ran away and escaped unhurt, the police said.

The injured school students, Gobinda Roy, Jayanta Roy and Arindam Roy were admitted to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. Gobinda's condition was serious, Medical College sources said.

The bomb squad recovered four more bottle bombs from there. The bombs were crude in nature and made locally.

The police was investigating the incident.
