A man died of cardiac arrest following a grenade attack by militants on a security patrol in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, official sources said.
A grenade was hurled by terrorists in an abortive attempt to target a Border Security Force patrol at the main market in Bandipora district, 55 kms from Srinagar, at 0930 hours, sources said.
No one was hurt in the grenade attack as the device fell short of its mark and exploded by the roadside, a civilian identified as Ali Mohammad Khan (65), who was passing through the market, fainted on hearing the deafening sound of the explosion.
Khan, a resident of Takiya-Bandipora, was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Khan had suffered a heart attack on hearing the sound of the blast, they said.
The area has been cordoned off by the police with the help of security forces and a hunt has been launched to nab the militants. No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the incident.
