A team from the Mumbai Anti Terrorist Squad is in Uttar Pradesh to seek the transit remand of Fahid Ansari and Sabahuddin, the two Lashkar-e-Tayiba operatives arrested in connection with the attack on the Central Reserve Police Force camp in Rampur, which claimed 8 lives.

The ATS, which sought the permission of a Mumbai court to seek transit remand of the two LeT militants, has reached Lucknow. The ATS will file an application before a local court in Lucknow, seeking transit remand so that it can interrogate the two men to probe their alleged links with the recent terror attack on Mumbai.

Both Ansari and Sabahuddin were arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorist Squad. During interrogations, Ansari had reportedly confessed to providing sketches and videos of key targets in Mumbai to the LeT.

Ansari also revealed that after receiving training from LeT commanders, he did a reconnaissance of the likely terror targets in Mumbai.

Sabahuddin, another key LeT operative, had come down to India to carry out the attack on the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. The UP police believe that he used to raise funds for the LeT, and had managed to raise Rs 10 lakh through hawala channels. The police believe that this money could have been used to carry out the Mumbai terror attack.
