2 Haryana cops arrested for rape

In a shocking incident, a 40-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two Haryana Armed Police personnel and a civilian near Governor A R Kidwai's official residence in Chandigarh in the wee hours of Thursday.

Commando Vijendra, attached to the governor's security, and Constable Dinesh were arrested on charges of raping the woman, SHO Ram Gopal, in whose jurisdiction the alleged crime took place, said.

He said police were on the look out for the third person, a relative of Dinesh, who also allegedly criminally assaulted the woman working as a cook with a catering firm.

The woman was returning home in an auto-rickshaw when the alleged rape took place close to the residence of the Haryana governor in high-security Sector 3.

In her complaint to police, the woman alleged the two policemen stopped the auto, thrashed its driver and dragged her to their quarter nearby, the SHO said.

There she was criminally assaulted by the three, the complaint alleged.

The woman was medically examined and the report in this regard was awaited, the SHO said.
