Taximen went on a flash strike at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Interntaional Airport in Mumbai on Monday afternoon over an issue pertaining to the parking stand.
According to Bombay Taximen Union President A L Quadros, as part of modernisation procedure, the Mumbai International Airport Ltd wanted the taximen to move to a new plot near the Sahar police station, but are not giving written assurances as to whether it is a permanent or temporary arrangement.
"We want the airport authorities to give us in writing but they are not willing to do so," he told PTI.
"We do not know whether this is a permanent or temporary arrangement and that is why we are insisting on writing. Once they give it to us in writing, we will immediately resume the services," he said.
"During the modernisation of the domestic terminal, similar promises were made to re-allot the taxi stand to the union but nothing has happened till date and our taxis are instead parked on the Western Express Highway," Quadros said.
"Since we do not want a similar fate for our taxi stand on the international airport side, we have resorted to the strike," he added.
