Journalists were attacked and their equipment damaged on Friday by supporters of Asaram Bapu during a bandh called to protest the mysterious death of two boys studying in the ashram's gurukul.

Supporters of Asaram Bapu came out with sticks and attacked a group of journalists who were outside the ashram in Motera on the outskirts of Ahmedabad.

"We were outside the ashram covering the bandh, when Bapu's supporters came out and attacked us," Gopi Ganghar of Aajtak television channel, who sustanined injuries in the incident, said.

"They also damaged equipment and outdoor broadcast vans of the news channel," Ganghar, who was later hospitalised, said.

Bodies of the two boys, 11-year-old Abhishek Vaghela and 10-year old Dipesh Vaghela  were found on the banks of the Sabarmati river on July 5. They were reported missing from the ashram a few days before their bodies were found.

People of the Ranip area where the boys belonged to, had called for a bandh which was being supported by the Gujarat state unit of the Congress.
