Maharashtra's special security force of commandos, created to combat terror attacks, is expected to be ready in two months, Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said on Monday.

The Force One will be drawn from the state police, and is expected to be on the lines of the elite National Security Guards. It will be equipped with sophisticated weapons to tackle attacks like the recent Mumbai terror strikes.

The selection process of commandos to be trained for the elite force will begin soon, Chavan said.

The chief minister was attending a meeting of senior police officials from across the state at the Director General of Police headquarters in Mumbai, in the presence of Home Minister Jayant Patil.

A team of NSG was recently in Mumbai to evaluate some locations suggested by the state government to set up their base, Chavan added.
