Late prime minister Vishwanath Pratap Singh's son Ajay Pratap Singh on Friday joined the Ramvilas Paswan-led Lok Janshakti Party.

He would contest from Fatehpur Lok Sabha seat of Uttar Pradesh on Lok Janshakti Party ticket, Paswan announced and said he would request the United Progressive Alliance constituencies not to put up any candidate against the former PM's son.

Vishwanath Pratap Singh had contested from Fatehpur. Ajay's joining LJP also brought about the merger of Jan Morcha, floated by his father, with the Paswan-led outfit.

"Ajay Pratap Singh is now senior vice president of LJP while Jan Morcha's general secretary Vinod Singh has been appointed as all India general secretary of our party," Paswan said.

Sharing the dais with Paswan, the former PM's son said he would try to fulfill the dreams of his father.

"Jan Morcha will now be known as LJP," he added.

He claimed his father wanted to make Paswan the president of Janata Dal but could not do it. Vinod Singh said a function would soon be organized here to formalise the merger.
