You want to look your best all the time!

And you need some tips on how to do that.

Enter fashion designer and image consultant Meera Mittal, who spoke to Get Ahead readers recently. This is a transcript of the chat.

  • Part I: Dress for impact!
  • Part II: How to stand out from the crowd!
  • imtheguru: I live in a city where the weather changes every four or so hours. Mornings are cold and foggy. Afternoons are sunny and occasionally warm. By evening, the wind chill factor drops the temperature to a rather cold 10 degree Celcius.

I am in my late 20s, and have to meet a lot of important clients in the course of work. What do you think is right attire to keep me warm, fashionably in tune, and works with the weather, too?

Meera: Combine a well-fitted light sweater with comfortable jeans. Use a jacket which can keep you warm when the weather gets rough. Throw in a matching muffler and beret (a round, soft, brimless cap that fits snugly and is often worn angled to one side).

What is really in is boots. So get a pair of those, and they will take you everywhere!

ARChoudhury: I am 26-year old man wants to look sexy while out of office. Kindly suggest what styles I can go in for so that I can be attractive to girls?

Meera: Go for well-fitted tees with interesting prints and a pair of jeans which fit right. Even shirts can be mighty sexy when worn with a stylish belt. Keep the top two buttons open. This should do!

sunny: I will be visiting the United States/ United Kingdom on business. What dress do you prefer for me to wear at business discussions, dinner parties at both these countries?

Meera: For business discussions, nothing beats a smart suit when complemented with the right accesories, like cufflinks, a tie pin and a designer watch.

Try to stick to basic colours, and don't be too flashy, especially in the UK. Be subtle and suave.

chetna: I am 5' 4" and have a pear-shaped body. I have medium-length straight hair and a very Indian-looking face. What do you think would be the best makeover look for me?

Meera: Get a layered haircut which frames you face well. Try skirts. They flatter the pear shape well.

Stay away from gathers on the waist and anything that adds bulk.

Also, go for traditional prints like block prints and paisley motifs. Any Indian face looks interesting with kajal and traditional jewellery.

Try to match your bag and shoes with your outfits as much as possible. There are tons of colours and designs to choose from. Good luck!

seema: What kind of trousers would best suit me to enhance my height and cut down the bulk?

Meera: No pleats, no side pockets, wider hems and no low waists.

XYZ: I work in a company which is very cosmopolitan. What kind of salwar suits would look professional? Short kurtas, A-line or fitted salwar-kameezes? I don't want to look too old. I am 5' 8" , weigh around 64 kilogrammes and have short hair.

Meera: Try not to buy full salwar-kameez-dupatta sets. Instead, mix and match to create your own look.

A-line kurtas are out. The Patiala salwar with short kurtas is very stylish. Churidars are also holding their own. Experiment with jewellery.

sanjeev: What are the colour trends for  Summer 2005?

Meera: Watch out for minty greens, pale pink, icy blue, beige and peachy orange (mainly sherbet colours).

Bhumika: I am just 5 feet, with 51 kilogrammes. I know am overweight, and I have startered working on it.

I work at a multinational bank. Could you please suggest me some nice formals that suit my height.

Meera: Wear fusion styles in matching colours, like a knee-length kurta with wide-bottom trousers and a complementary stole.

    DON'T MISS!
