What: The National Institute of Communicable Disease (NICD) announces admissions to its Master of Public Health (MPH) (Field Epidemiology) programme.

Eligibility criteria

Candidates possessing an MBBS degree from any recognised institution are eligible to apply for the course.

Age
The upper age limit is 45 years for in-service candidates and 35 years for others as on August 1, 2009. The upper age limit can be relaxed up to a maximum of five years in exceptional cases by the Admission Officer if he/she is satisfied with the merit of the case.

Seats
Intake will be limited to a maximum of 15 seats. (The matter regarding increase in number of  seats from 15 to 20 is under consideration of the University.) Of these, two seats are earmarked for World Health Organisation sponsored fellows. For the remaining 13 seats, admission will be done on the basis of an entrance test. These 13 seats will be distributed in the ratio of 60 per cent for In-Service Candidates (working in Health Institutions/Organisations in Central/State Government or Public Sector and having five years' experience, of which at least three years should be in Public Health activities) and 40 per cent for Direct Candidates.

In-Service Candidates shall, at the time of application or counselling for admission, furnish a letter from their employer that, if they are admitted, they would be relieved for two years for undertaking the course on a full-time basis at NICD. Reservation will be as per Government/University norms: 27 per cent for other Backward Classes; 15 per cent for Scheduled Castes; 7.5 per cent for Scheduled Tribes; 5 per cent for Defence category and 3 per cent for Physically Handicapped Candidates. One seat, which is supernumerary in nature; is earmarked for Kashmiri Migrants; for which the admission will be based on the Entrance Test.

Selection
Selection will be on the basis of an Entrance Test, to be conducted on July 5, 2009 (Sunday) in Delhi. WHO-sponsored candidates are exempted from appearing in the entrance test and such candidates will be enrolled to the University directly. How to apply
Application Form and Information Bulletin for admission to MPH (FE) for the academic session 2009-10 will be available between 10.00 am and 5.00 pm on all working days from June 4, 2009 to June 22, 2009 on payment of Rs 400/- (Rupees Four Hundred only) in the form of a Demand Draft in favour of "Director, National Institute of Communicable Diseases" payable at "Delhi". 

For obtaining the same by registered post, a Demand Draft of Rs 450/- (Rupees Four Hundred and Fifty only) in favour of "Director, National Institute of Communicable Diseases" payable at "Delhi" should be sent to the Administrative Officer (I), National Institute of Communicable diseases, 22 Shamnath Marg, Delhi-110054, so as to reach the Institute by 5.00 pm on June 11, 2009.

Application Form & Information Bulletin can also be downloaded from www.nicd.nic.in. Those who use the downloaded application form must enclose a demand draft of Rs 400/- (Rupees Four Hundred only), drawn in favour of "Director, National Institute of Communicable Diseases" payable at "Delhi" with the application form. The name and address of the candidate should be written on the reverse of bank draft.

Submission of Applications
Applications complete in all respects, should be submitted to the Director, National Institute of Communicable Diseases on or before 5.00 pm on June 22, 2009. On the top of the envelope containing the application form, the words, "APPLICATION FOR MPH (FE) 2009" must be written.
